Budget With Me Wednesday-Week 3

Hello loves!

So can I just start by saying that budgeting is no fun!  I know it's the whole sacrifice now, reward later but it's just hard.  I've been earning some extra money recently (I've been taking care of people's pets, AKA getting paid to live at someone else house) and it would be nice to treat my self to something special.  Alas, there are the rules.  Those tricky rules.

This week I went to Kohl's and bought myself some new leggings and workout pants (I also started this new workout shenanigans, it's a form of martial arts called Capoeira, need to figure out if that could fit in the budget), so there went my one purchase over 30 dollars, good thing it was "necessary".

Anyway, I've only strayed from my $10 a day of "fun" money once in the three weeks I've been doing this, so I feel like that's a good thing.

The temptation to spend more will only lead to my continual lack of money, I'm fighting that urge so much!  If I want to be able to save for vacation, a "rainy day" etc, I need to push myself now to not spend, and that's a lesson that is hard and incredibly annoying to learn.

Good luck with your budget woes!  What has helped you get past the spending "urge"?

Love,

Keely

  1. I have to distract myself sometimes! Or if it's in my budget, take a smaller amount of money to do a project instead of buying a more expensive item. :)

    1. Ah yes the art of distraction! Totally works...unless I'm out to dinner with friends, or bored at work and shopping on Etsy...yeah...I should just block Etsy from my work computer! Thanks for the tips :)

  2. I think the best thing is to be really clear about what it is that you're saving for - since it has to be worth the sacrifice now, right? So if you want something really really badly, saving away all your little spare dollars doesn't seem like that much of a sacrifice after all, and you might even find you enjoy saving! It gets easier the more you save, too :). Good luck!

  3. I think you deserve a big GOOD JOB for even being budget conscious and being aware of the whole money thing - it seems like a lot of people just ignore their finances and spend without care. My husband and I have always had a budget for our money and it really helps to know where money is going, where we need it, and where we can cut back. When we have moments of "I wish I could have this..." we have to remind ourselves that paying off our mortgage, line of credit, etc is more important in the long run.

    1. Thanks! I spent a lot of time not caring and now have to recover a bit (nothing TOO major). So before travel=catching up on debt, then travel! It's all a process!
